Early detection saves lives. Schedule your mammogram.
Your life is probably a lot like Karen’s. Busy and full, with family obligations and work keeping you hopping and on your toes. It’s easy to get behind on doctors’ appointments.
But as Karen can tell you, if you don’t have time for a mammogram, then you definitely don’t have time for breast cancer. One year later, after months of chemo and radiation, then a mastectomy and reconstruction surgery, she’s finally getting her life back.
“My message to all women—get your mammogram! The earlier breast cancer is diagnosed, the more options you have,” she says.
What if I have dense breasts?
Not to worry. Approximately 50% of women are told after having a mammogram that they have “dense breasts” (i.e. they have more dense tissue than fatty tissue in their breasts). Breast density can make detecting cancer more difficult, and increases the risk of breast cancer.
Roper St. Francis offers 3-D mammography for women with dense breasts. 3-D mammography provides an image that is clearer and more accurate, allowing our radiologists to see through layers of tissue and examine the breast from many angles.
If you received a letter notifying you that you have dense breasts, make sure to let our mammography specialists know and request 3-D mammography when you schedule your next mammogram.
Schedule your mammogram today.
Note: A doctor's order is required. Be sure to obtain one from your doctor prior to your scheduled mammogram.
